Subject: NO bug in newest kpathsea under DEC alpha / OSF 2.0
Cc: tex-k@cs.umb.edu
Thanks! to Pierre MacKay and Tim Murphy, who pointed me in the right
direction.
It appears that I have confounded two problems.
(1) Tex does not work with the new kpathsea, at least under OSF 2.0.
(2) I do not have compiled fonts, so xdvi did not work.
I've now made dvips (I had stopped at xdvi, thinking new kpathsea was
broken, since both tex with new kpathsea and xdvi had failed). It now
appears that path-finding works correctly for both dvips and, I think,
xdvi. However, I have no compiled fonts; dvips knows how to make
fonts as needed, but xdvi does not.
I believe I have followed all the instructions in the README and
INSTALL files. There are some references to getting extra fonts from
other places, but (a) these did not seem necessary to the basic
installation and (b) instructions on how to install these were not
clear to me.
At any rate, I would now appreciate any guidance as to (1) how to
get pk and other fonts installed and (2) how to tell xdvi to
use MakeTeXPK to make fonts as needed.
Many thanks,
Ken Miller
